About PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormone condition in women of childbearing age. It often shows up as irregular or missed periods, acne, extra hair on the face or body, weight that is hard to shift, and sometimes difficulty getting pregnant. It is long-term but very manageable, and it raises the risk of diabetes later in life, so it is worth having it checked properly.

What happens at the first visit?

Expect questions about your periods, weight and skin, a blood pressure check, and usually an ultrasound of the ovaries along with blood tests for hormones, blood sugar and sometimes thyroid. Bring any earlier reports and a note of your last few period dates.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Your own doctor will advise on your case.
